183 South, Mobility35, SH 71 Express Projects Top Agenda
October 7, 2015 – AUSTIN – Rep. Eddie Rodriguez has teamed up with the Texas Department of Transportation and the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority to discuss highway improvements in and around the region.
Through voter approval of Proposition 1 in 2014, the central Texas region received approximately $120 million in new transportation dollars for 2015. TxDOT’s Austin District identified 14 projects to move forward with the Proposition 1 funds, including about $100 million for I-35 improvements.
Rep. Rodriguez and experts from TxDOT and the Mobility Authority will provide updates on current transportation projects, including 183 South, SH 71 Express, and Mobility35
Mobility35 is a regionwide effort to improve mobility and safety along a 65-mile stretch of I-35 in Williamson, Travis and Hays counties. This is a community-driven initiative to identify a recommended program of projects that could be completed within a ten-year window, if funding is identified.
The 183 South Project is a Mobility Authority project to build an eight-mile expressway with tolled and non-tolled lanes on US 183 between US 290 and SH 71.
SH 71 Express is a 3.9-mile limited-access toll road project beginning at Presidential Boulevard near Austin-Bergstrom International Airport and extending east, ending at SH 130 near Onion Creek. Work is being done by McCarthy Building Companies and is expected to be complete in late 2016.
