Notes & Noticias: They Sent Me to Houston this Week

Yesterday, I was in Houston as a member of the House Economic & Small Business Development Committee to hear testimony regarding economic development, manufacturing, and workforce development in the Houston area. It was great to hear updates on the progress we made last session with legislation designed to improve our skilled workforce in Texas. I look forward to working on these issues next session to make sure that our young people of all socioeconomic backgrounds are able to receive the necessary training to receive high paying jobs that are in high demand.

Let’s have a Fun-Raiser!

This is not your typical political fundraiser!

Join me for a great evening of laughs at Esther’s Follies on May 15. If you have never attended a show at this place, then you’ve been missing out! This is sure to be one of the most entertaining political events of the year.

Farewell and Best Wishes, Interns!

I want to tell you about the three bright young students who interned for me at the Capitol this semester. They have all been great assets to our office and the people of District 51.

Jessica Herrera is a graduating senior at The University of Texas who is majoring in psychology and social work. She plans on pursuing a career in law down the road, and I have no doubt she will be very successful.

Tanner Long is a freshman studying government at The University of Texas. He currently serves as a Liberal Arts Representative in Student Government and the Membership Director in the University Democrats. His passion for public service and his strong work ethic will lead to great things.
Madison Matthews is an International Relations sophomore at Texas State. She will be studying abroad in Jordan to study language and culture next semester. Reflecting on her semester, she notes, “Over the course of this internship, I learned how to draft constituent response letters, prepare resolutions, and that without your badge on you at all times, you can get stuck in the Capitol’s underground hallways!” I hope she has a safe and fulfilling trip abroad.
Their work ethic is stellar, so I will need to make sure to give them as much research work as possible before they leave for good this week! Please join me in wishing them well in their future plans.

Thanks again for reading Notes and Noticias. I look forward to seeing you in the community!
