Today, the Federal Court in DC added yet another factor to consider if you are trying to predict when the Texas primaries will occur and what maps will be used. The Court announced today that it will be at least 30 days before it rules on whether the legislatively passed redistricting maps violate the Voting Rights Act. Here is the full announcement:
“The Court directs the parties to comply fully with the page limits and briefing schedule set in this matter so that it can be timely resolved and also notifies the parties that this Court does not anticipate issuing any order within the next 30 days.”
The San Antonio Court has a tough task ahead in Redrawing the maps given that it might have to wait a while before it gets guidance from the DC Court.
Given this announcement, it will be virtually impossible to hold an April 3rd primary, unless all parties come to an agreement on interim maps.
